Your first lessonThe first thing I do as a teacher for new beginner students is get to know about them, first by asking about their music experience or exposure and what genres and musicians they like. We then start with the basics, for vocalists I start with warm ups and scales to test their range and comfort levels, and for guitarists I go right into teaching beginning chords and finger placement practice.
Lesson 11+If they are preparing for an upcoming recital or audition, I want to make sure that they have enough time and practice to master it.
Lesson 4-10I would by then want to have at least two or three songs down for my students, not just by completion but also by skill level.
Lesson 2-3Once my students are able to reach a level where they feel proficient, I start really getting into teaching them songs that I feel match their proficiency in where they are in the moment. I also make sure to keep practice logs for my students to ensure their progress and keep tabs on their practice notes.
