Beginner training plan
Your first lessonI will ask some questions about your experience, interests, goals and expectations, then I will explain about how I teach my lessons. Then we will jump in to some vocal or instrumental warms up and exercises. Depending upon your level of experience and comfort, I will play and sing with you and create a comfortable and encouraging atmosphere. There are many different types of lesson plans for each student and I take care and time to make sure it fits what individual students are looking for.
Lesson 11+Usually we continue to develop techniques and make sure students are growing their confidence, learning how to perform live, mic control for singers, perfecting songs, working on a bit more advanced techniques if students are ready, incorporating other aspects of music education such as some theory, improvisation for those who are interested, making sure they are able to sing/play a song straight through well, with proper techniques, breathing, support from their core, and more. Again, each student is different, but it’s important to understand what is being taught and to build on that knowledge to help students of all abilities and experience have a lasting relationship with music. I teach students from 3 to into their 70’s, so it’s important to build a good relationship, good communication, trust and keep evaluating students goals to guide them to exceed them.
Lesson 4-10At this stage, most vocal students will pick a song that we can start working on and applying their exercises to. Instrumental students will be working from a lesson book and supplemental materials, as well as focus on styles of music they are interested in learning. Each student is unique so the speed at which a student learns and improves is different and dependent on their practice and efforts.
Lesson 2-3As we are getting to know each other and I am learning more about your needs and abilities as well as learning styles, we will be working on practicing vocal exercises, instrumental techniques and start a practice plan as well as teach you how to practice properly. We will also incorporate breathing and diaphragm work.

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonIt would be similar to all of my first lessons. We would discuss your/the students experience, interests, goals and expectations and I would share some on mine as well as the specific areas you want to fugue on studying and improving on. We would start by playing some of your warm ups, exercises and maybe a song or reading sheet music, maybe playing with a backing track.
Lesson 11+It depends upon the progress and interests of each student, again, but we would be working on applying the exercises and technique development to being able to play songs, improvise, learn popular solos, guitar lic’s, drum beats and fills, vocal runs and flexibility and so forth, to be able to play or sing songs with confidence, proper techniques, nice tone/sound, learn how to fix mistakes and keep playing after making a mistake, play with backing tracks to then prepare to play with other musicians, there’s an endless journey to each student and I continue to explore what I think they need to work on and improve upon as well as what they think and what their interests are.
Lesson 4-10By now you have a practice plan and I have a lesson plan that has been developed specifically for you and we are focusing on proper practice techniques and working on the areas that need training. I expect that the student comes prepared and that we go through the materials that were assigned and cover any new materials as well as answer questions and fix problems/challenges. I will play along side of you and demonstrate techniques as well as help you make necessary adjustments. The psychology of learning is fascinating and each student not only learns uniquely, but also responds to feedback differently, so I try hard to know what works for each student and deliver the information in ways that work for each student. I’m definitely versatile and flexible and I’m fully present and engaged during each lesson.
Lesson 2-3The next few lessons would be focussing on creating a practice plan and discuss materials to use for this. I would begin to create a more in with and detailed lesson plan to work on the areas that you communicated that you want to learn or work on, as I continue to get to hear you, know you and understand how you learn and assess what I’m seeing and hearing from your playing.

Youth players
Working with kidsDepending upon the age and abilities, I create fun music with movement for 3 years to 6 years of age, while incorporating singing and learning songs, musical songs and activities, percussion instruments to introduce rhythms, recorder, ukulele and piano are good instruments to start with. Every music class or lesson is unique and the curriculum and lesson materials depend upon discussing the parents desires and the needs of the students.

Working with teenagersWhen working with teenagers, it’s the same as every other student, however teens need a different type of support and interaction, which I am experienced in. Being able to listen, relate, support, motivate, encourage and meet them where they’re at, are important attributes to teaching teens. I am personable and I engage each student while incorporating what they want to learn to play while explaining the importance of the things I know they need to learn and know.

What you need to bringBring your instrument, voice, any music you need help with or assignments I can assist with, and bring a positive attitude and willingness to learn! I will provide books for reimbursement and copies of my own supplemental materials for no cost.

What I can bringI can share my piano, and can allow beginners to try out different instruments, but most students need to have their own instrument to be able to learn on and practice with. I have helped many students with acquiring instruments, so I’m here to help.

Heidi has taught all 3 of my kids, 2 of which are now College Graduates and one is in College, she also teaches me electric guitar. She has taught my daughter flute, my eldest daughter violin and voice and my son on piano. We have been with her for many years and very much appreciate her versatility and comprehensive knowledge. She is patient yet has good expectations, she encourages her students to overcome challenges and motivated them to continue to improve, enjoy the process and be their best. My youngest daughter has learning disabilities and Heidi has been patient, understanding, steadfast and creative with her teaching approaches and methods. Heidi has so much to offer any student and we have really appreciated her ongoing dedication to foster a life long passion for learning music excellence.

From the first time meeting with her, I knew she was the right teacher for me. We met at a coffee shop and I played/showed her my music composition. She asked what I needed from her since it seemed like I was doing well, and I knew it was the right fit. I wanted to learn about music theory, orchestration, instrumentation, chord progressions, song writing, and piano. I’ve had teachers in the past tell me that I wasn’t ready to compose music because I didn’t have enough knowledge, training, skills. This was upsetting and discouraging, but I didn’t quit. I explained to Heidi that I wanted to learn more to add tools to my skill set, rather than being taught rules. She has been able to boutique her lesson plans to fit my interests and goals and she has been a great fit. I have learned so much, that’s why I continue to work with her. Her insight, support and help is very valuable and I am still interested in more in depth piano lessons at some point in time, but we have mainly focused on composition and the aforementioned subjects. I absolutely recommend her. Her education, training, knowledge and experience is vast and impressive and her attitude is always upbeat and positive.

Mrs. Heidi has helped me learn how to play snare drum and drum set with the correct technique and has helped me learn to read music. I now play in my school band because of her lessons and encouragement. I have learned how to play Cool beats, how to create my own beats and fills and I get to play songs that I like and have always wanted to learn to play. She is a great teacher, pushes me to be better, explains things in ways I understand, always points out the things I’m doing well while helping me with the areas I need improvement in, is positive and I always enjoy our lessons.

Mrs. Heidi knows many instruments and sings really nicely. I enjoy piano lessons with her and have learned how to read notes and count rhythms. I have played in a Lesson book as well as done warm ups and learned to play Fur Elise and a Harry Potter song, which I’ve always wanted to do. She is always nice and she helps me understand how to fix my mistakes and how to practice. I’m so glad I started piano lessons with her and hope other students will have her help.

Mrs. Heidi is fun and lets me be creative and write my own songs. I love music and am learning piano and singing. When I grow up I want to play piano, sing and be a good swimmer. I enjoy my lessons with Mrs. Heidi because she helps me learn, get better and she brings fun songs that I like to play, like Taylor Swift. I also really like to perform in the Recitals that she has. I think all kids should take music lessons with her, she’s the best!

Heidi has helped me with my confidence as well as my overall vocal knowledge. She created exercises for me that fit my level while challenging me to help me continue to improve. She always had a positive and encouraging attitude and took the time to get to know me. She encourages me in my life as well as my musical endeavors and it’s nice to have extra support. I had to discontinue for personal reasons, but I will take lessons with her again in the future. She is a great teacher and person! I recommend her to anyone on any instrument!
