I am Dr. Giovanna Yaqi Yang, an operatic soprano based in NYC, known for my bell-like expressive voice. As a professional classical singer, I've had the privilege of performing in opera and concert settings across the country. My engagements have included esteemed opera companies such as Florida Grand Opera, Music on Site, Inc., Aquilon Music Festival, and NJVAC. Recently, I worked with Florida Grand Opera Outreach and had the honor of singing the leading role in the world premiere of "The Leopard," an opera whose album was officially released by the premier classical label Naxos Records. My performances have been reviewed by prestigious critics like OperaWire, The European Conservative, and South Florida Classical Review. OperaWire described me as “exceedingly charming” and “exuberant and soaring,” while South Florida Classical Review praised my larger-than-life stage persona and gleaming high register. In addition to my opera work, I am an active recitalist and have held three voice recitals and an extra lecture recital in the past three years. I am thrilled to be making my Carnegie Hall debut in July, having previously performed at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall in 2011 and as the soprano soloist in "Carmina Burana" with the Frost Symphony Orchestra in 2022. I recently graduated with a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. I am also proud to be a prizewinner of numerous competitions, with recent accolades including Florida Chapter Winner in the Dorothy Lincoln-Smith Voice Award, Second Prize in NATS Florida Gold Coast Chapter, Second Prize in American Music Talent Competition, Second Prize in Classical Music Stars, First Prize in London Classical Music Competition, Gold Prize in German Euterpe Awards Competition, Third Prize in London International Music Competition, and Third Prize in the International ArtSong OPUS Competition.
