Beginner training plan
Your first lessonBeginner Player Plan (First 10 Lessons) Objective: Build fundamental skills, develop hand-eye coordination, and understand the rules. Lesson 1: Introduction to Pickleball • Warm-Up (10 min): Dynamic stretches and light footwork drills. • Basics (20 min): • Grip techniques: Eastern grip and paddle control. • Court layout and rules: Explain scoring, boundaries, and faults. • Drills (15 min): • Tossing and catching balls to develop hand-eye coordination. • Shadow swings (no ball) for forehand/backhand strokes. • Game Play (15 min): Practice rallying over the net.
Lesson 2-3Lesson 2: Serves and Returns • Warm-Up (10 min): Shadow strokes focusing on serve motions. • Drills (25 min): • Basic serve technique: underhand motion, aiming for the service box. • Return drills: Drop feeds to practice returning to the middle of the court. • Game Play (25 min): Short serving and returning games to practice skills. • Coaching Tip: Encourage consistency over power. Focus on foot placement. Lesson 3: Dinking Fundamentals • Warm-Up (10 min): Soft toss drills at the kitchen line. • Basics (15 min): Explain the purpose of dinking. Demonstrate the proper technique. • Drills (20 min): • Crosscourt dinking drills with focus on control. • Partner drills: Keep the ball in play for as long as possible. • Game Play (15 min): Kitchen-line rally games.
Lesson 4-10Lesson 4-5: Groundstrokes and Footwork • Groundstrokes (Lesson 4): • Forehand/backhand technique. Drills: Rally with a partner, alternating strokes. • Footwork drills: Side-stepping along the baseline while maintaining paddle control. • Footwork and Positioning (Lesson 5): • Movement drills: Transitioning from baseline to net. • Court awareness: Partner positioning for doubles. Lessons 6-10: Combine and Reinforce • Practice serves, dinks, and volleys with situational games. • Introduce simple doubles strategies. • Gradually increase game intensity while reinforcing fundamentals.

Youth players
Working with kids1. Create a Fun and Safe Environment • Keep it Positive: Use encouragement and celebrate effort, not just success. • Make it Safe: Use lightweight paddles and balls (like foam or practice balls) for younger children to ensure safety and build confidence. • Short Sessions: Keep lessons around 30-45 minutes to match their attention span. 2. Adjust Drills and Games Focus on activities that are fun, interactive, and skill-building: Warm-Up (5-10 min) • Use playful activities like: • “Paddle Tag”: Tap a ball in the air while moving around. • Relay Races: Incorporate running with balancing a ball on the paddle. Skill-Based Games • Serve Practice: • Create targets like hula hoops or cones for kids to hit with serves. • Offer prizes (e.g., stickers or praise) for accuracy. • Dinking Drills: • Play “Kitchen King/Queen”: Kids try to dink and stay in the game while staying near the kitchen. • Groundstrokes: • Simplify by using bounce feeds and encourage rallying for as long as possible. • Play “Ball Bounce Challenge”: See who can hit the ball over the net after one bounce the most times. Mini Matches • Play short, simplified games to keep kids engaged. For example, race to 5 points instead of 11. 3. Focus on Movement and Coordination • Footwork Drills: Make these fun and dynamic, like hopping through cones or jumping over lines. • Hand-Eye Coordination: Use beginner-friendly exercises, such as catching balls with one hand or paddle taps (bouncing the ball on the paddle). • Balance Activities: Incorporate exercises like walking heel-to-toe while holding a paddle. 4. Use Age-Appropriate Communication • Simplify Instructions: Use clear, simple language and break skills into smaller steps. • Show, Don’t Just Tell: Demonstrate skills multiple times. Kids learn best by watching. • Ask Questions: Involve them by asking, “Why do you think we hit softly at the net?” 5. Make It Competitive (But Friendly!) • Incorporate challenges like: • Target Shooting: Award points for hitting specific zones. • Longest Rally: Celebrate the longest back-and-forth rally. • Team Games: Pair kids up to encourage teamwork and fun. 6. Be Flexible and Playful • Allow Creativity: Let them try their own shots or suggest new games. • Adjust on the Fly: If they seem bored or frustrated, pivot to an easier or more engaging activity. • Add Themed Lessons: For example, have a “Pirate Day” where kids “serve cannonballs” or “defend their treasure.” 7. Emphasize Life Skills • Teach patience, teamwork, and sportsmanship through group activities and team-based drills. • Praise behaviors like cheering for peers or helping others. Example Kids’ Lesson Plan (45 minutes) 1. Warm-Up (5 min): Paddle tag or ball-balance relay. 2. Serve Practice (10 min): Hit targets for points. 3. Groundstrokes (10 min): Partner rally game—count how many shots they can return over the net. 4. Dinking Game (10 min): Play “Kitchen King/Queen.” 5. Mini Match (10 min): Simplified doubles with a fun twist (e.g., serve from a “magic” spot). Tips for Coaches Working with Kids • Stay patient and energetic—kids mirror your enthusiasm. • Keep lessons lighthearted; let them laugh and enjoy. • Use rewards like stickers, medals, or simple praise to keep them motivated. • Involve parents occasionally to cheer or play alongside their kids.

What you need to bringWhatever you think is necessary for you ex. water, gatorade, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, etc. And ofc a paddle if you have it!

What I can bringI can provide all the equipment, but it is preferable that you bring your own paddle, just because it’s good to use your own, get used to and not switch paddles all the time. I will provide the balls, basket, and cones to do drills.

Outstanding Pickleball Coach – Highly Recommend! My wife and I had an incredible pickleball lesson with Coach Victoria, and we can’t recommend her enough! I have some experience playing, but my wife is a complete beginner, and Victoria did an amazing job tailoring the lesson to both of our skill levels. She is patient, knowledgeable, and has a fantastic way of breaking down techniques so they’re easy to understand. My wife, who was a little nervous at first, felt completely comfortable and confident by the end of the lesson, thanks to Victoria’s encouragement and clear instruction. Victoria also gave me great tips to refine my game, and her insights on strategy were a game-changer. On top of that, she brought all the equipment we needed and made the lesson both fun and productive. Whether you’re new to pickleball or looking to level up your skills, Victoria is the coach you need.

I was stuck at a 3.5 level for a long time, but after working with Victoria, I finally broke through to 4.0. She knows exactly how to push you to the next level. Can’t thank her enough!
