Beginner training plan
Your first lessonMake Them Feel Comfortable (5 Minutes)
• Greet and introduce yourself warmly.
• Ask about their sports background to gauge their experience level.
• Briefly explain what pickleball is and why it’s fun and easy to learn.
2. Start with the Basics (10 Minutes)
• Show them the court layout (kitchen, baseline, sidelines).
• Explain basic rules (two-bounce rule, scoring, serving rules).
• Demonstrate the proper paddle grip (Eastern grip is beginner-friendly).
3. Focus on Fundamentals (20 Minutes)
• Serving: Underhand serve, aiming deep into the opponent’s court.
• Return of Serve: Emphasize control and depth.
• Dinking: Introduce soft shots at the kitchen for control practice.
• Volleying: Explain when volleys are allowed and practice at the net.
4. Movement & Strategy (10 Minutes)
• Teach court positioning (staying at the kitchen line when possible).
• Discuss partner communication in doubles play.
• Reinforce when to be aggressive vs. when to play it safe.
5. Practice Drills (10 Minutes)
• Dinking rally at the kitchen line.
• Serve and return drills to build consistency.
• Drop shot drill from the baseline to the kitchen.
6. Play a Mini Game & Wrap Up (5 Minutes)
• Let them apply what they learned in a short game.
• Offer feedback and encouragement.
• Answer any questions and suggest what to practice next.
