A graduate from UT Austin, I studied Finance & Real Estate with a minor in Kinesiology. Sporting endeavors have been a central part of my life, having engaged in five sports during my high school years. This early passion for sports shaped my interests and pursuits. Presently, I'm enthusiastic about officiating high school football games on Fridays during the Fall, aspiring to be the best I can be! Beginner training plan
Your first lessonThrough IPTPA, I’ve learned the standards of coaching the first few lessons of the sport! I always tell my students, once I walk you through the standard teachings of the sport, I’m more than happy to really dig into the niches of the game and how we can improve you as a competitive player on a weekly basis.
To start, we’ll focus on the correct grip, footwork, & positioning. Grip, footwork, & positioning are roughly 75% of this sport, the other 25% is shot selection!
If we have time, we’ll start working on shot selections, but this is mostly reserved for lesson #2.
NOTE: You will receive practice homework!!!
Lesson 2-3Shot selection is what lesson #2 is composed of. I’d go over every shot selection with the student, as follows:
1. The Dink Shot
2. Forehand/Backhand Strokes
3. Serving/Return Serves
4. Punch Volley
5. Third Drop Shot
Lesson #3 is mostly made for:
6. Lobs
7. Overhead smashs
We mainly go over unattackable shots (I like to call them kill shots), and how to continuously practice getting better.
Advanced training plan
Youth players
Working with kidsI go much slower with younger children, as I’m cautious of how this could be someone’s first sport ever or well on their way to becoming a prodigy… either way, it’s an important experience and I take it seriously!
Working with teenagersEach scenario with a teenager will always depend on the teenagers athletic capabilities and how often they play sports. I adjust in a similar manner as I would toddlers, but if the teenagers pick it up quicker, I’m always happy to speed up or focus on specific lesson plans!
What you need to bringA coachable attitude, a willingness to learn, and a sense of urgency to the net.
Since we’re in Austin, be prepared to run around a bit. Ha!
