About your pickleball coach

I started playing pickleball almost two years ago and completely fell in love with the sport! Played in my first tournament last year at the World Pickleball Tour and walked away with a Gold Medal in men’s doubles and a Bronze Medal in mixed doubles. I recently played in the PPA Challenger Series in Westbrook, ME where I left with a gold in mixed doubles, bronze in men’s doubles, and a bronze in singles and I also have a singles gold medal. Whenever I’m not working, I am either playing, drilling, or coaching! I love helping people learn the game because I’m also learning as I teach.

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonThe first lesson is a very basic lesson. We will get to know the lay of the court and the rules of the game. We’ll go over how scoring works (it can get confusing) and we’ll get to know our paddle and how to best grip your paddle because it is an extension of our hand. With your consent, I can record our sessions with an app called Swingvision. An app specifically for pickleball and tennis. The video(s) will be uploaded into my public account where anyone with a Swingvision account can watch and download their video(s). I can also use this film with you to go over your game.
Lesson 2-3Moving forward, we will learn how to serve (there are a couple ways to serve) and we will make sure that you understand what you can and cannot do while serving because the only way to score a point is to be serving so serving is very important. We will also go over returning, positioning, anticipation and start to dive into some pattern recognition. The best players in the world already know what their next shot is or what their next two shots are going to be because of patterns.
Lesson 4-10As we progress, we will start to work on your soft game and your power game. When to play soft and when to attack. You will learn how to be disciplined on the NVZ or the kitchen line while dinking. Meaning that you will be patient and conditioned to wait for that very perfect ball to come your way.
Lesson 11+You’ve made it this far so you must really love the game, huh? This is the best part of learning. At this point, we will dive deeper into pickleball concepts, strategies, and hone in on what you feel that you need to improve on during our session. These later lessons are going to be more intense where we’re including some high intensity drilling sessions, singles matches, and doubles matches in order for you to put what you’ve been learning in a live situation.

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonWhat do you need to work on? You tell me what you feel that you need to work on, we will drill/play, and I’ll evaluate your game, technique, and habits. With your consent, I can record our sessions with an app called Swingvision. An app specifically for pickleball and tennis. The video(s) will be uploaded into my public account where anyone with a Swingvision account can watch and download their video(s). I can also use this film with you to go over your game.
Lesson 2-3Do you have any tennis or other racquet sports background? If so, which one(s)? Knowing this may help us break bad habits or even better, use it to your advantage.
Lesson 4-10Mastering resets will elevate your game overnight. Being able to control a point will yield more success. Staying in a point by playing championship defense equals more winning.
Lesson 11+Being a kitchen master will win you more hands battles and will give you more opportunities to set you or your partner up for the put away. When caught up in the transition zone or “no man’s land” do you think you have what it takes to grind out the point by hitting a solid drop into the opponent’s kitchen? Or do you cave right away and try to hit a massive drive?

Youth players
Working with kidsI like working with kids as a group and individually in order to really focus on their skill set, discipline, and focus. My goal is to create a fun, enjoyable, and safe learning environment for kids (and all age groups) by building a solid foundation of the game. Being a mentor and role model is something that I take pride in.

Working with teenagersMy main focus when working with teens is to really build that discipline and patience while incorporating advanced techniques and strategies. The game is evolving every day and the game is becoming faster and faster. Teenagers typically have really fast reflexes and their minds have more plasticity meaning that there’s more room for growth. By really focusing on the physical and mental aspects of the game, you will see your game improve overnight.

What you need to bringA paddle, appropriate footwear, water

Great drills and my footwork has really improved. If you have anything that you want to work on just let Elijah know and he’s more than happy to really focus on that with you.
Marco Guzman
Started pickleball about 1 month ago with no idea how to play or any of the rules. Elijah really took the time to help me understand the rules of the game (especially because the scoring is a bit confusing haha) and then Elijah took me through the basics of the game. Each lesson has been fun and very informative. I like Elijah’s teaching style a lot.
Jessica
Elijah’s been working with me for a few times now and he’s a great instructor! Very patient and very thorough with his lessons and drills! I feel bad sometimes when I’m taking a little bit to understand or perform, but he’s so patient and nice I really love working with him.
Kevin Nguyen
I’ve never played pickleball before. I didn’t even have a paddle to use but Elijah provided me with a paddle. He’s very understanding of someone who has never played the game before and I thought at first that I’ll try this lesson but I might not like it. Turns out I was wrong and I really enjoyed it and I went back for more. Now when I play with friends I have an upper hand because I know how to play how to hold the paddle and the rules of the game.
Bryan K
I’m an intermediate player who has played before but wanted to hone in on my skills. I like that Elijah lets me dictate what I want to work on and we will go from there. What I feel like I need work on I tell him and then we dial in what I need to do.
