Hi, I’m Bret. I’ve been immersed in competitive pickleball for the past 5 years, participating in regular events and loving every moment of it. My background includes teaching as an ice hockey coach and tennis instructor, and I’m thrilled to bring that same enthusiasm to pickleball. I’m known for my patience and enjoy making the learning process enjoyable and accessible for everyone, no matter their skill level. Watching my students progress and develop their own love for the game is what truly makes this journey rewarding for me.

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonKnowledge check and basics:
o Knows where to stand depending on the score and which team is serving;
o Knows the in/out rules for line calls;
o Demonstrates a simple pendulum swing on forehand and backhand dink shots;
Lesson 11+Continuation with match plan depending on student comfort level
Lesson 4-10Review is lesson 1-3 as applicable:
o Serves (from both “deuce” & “ad” courts) with 50% success;
o Returns serves (from both “deuce” & “ad” courts) with 50%
Lesson 2-3Review of lesson 1 as needed and:
o Makes 40% of forehand and backhand dink shots;
o Demonstrates the proper ready position at the NVZ line;
o Makes 40% of forehand and backhand punch volleys (from the NVZ line);
o In preparation for a groundstroke (both forehand & backhand), player demonstrates
footwork (including a final split-step) that will enable him/her to contact the ball at the
start of its descent and at a point to the side of the body and forward of the front knee;
o When making a groundstroke, transfers weight from the back foot to the front foot
while swinging the paddle through a shallow low-to-high arc;
