About your piano coach

Hello! My name is Sarah, nice to meet you! I graduated from Belmont University with a Bachelor of Music Performance in 1999 and took on my first student soon after I graduated. I ran a successful piano studio for 6 years in South Dakota until I moved out of state…and continued to move all around the world as a military spouse. I have recently moved back to Kansas City where I spent most of my childhood and am currently building a studio once again! I am able to travel to your home to teach lessons, provided you have a piano or digital keyboard with weighted keys. The price per lesson is for a 30 minute lesson. I will purchase your lessons books and bring them to the first lesson and you can reimburse me for the price. Any other questions…I am happy to answer!

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonI use the Faber book series and we will start on the black keys! We look for patterns on the piano and begin with those…then move to the names of the white keys.
Lesson 11+Lots of fun and enjoyable music to learn and play as you advance through the method books and into supplemental material you want to play… pop music, jazz, the famous classics. I can also teach how to read chord charts and lead sheets if you are more interested in playing keys with a band.
Lesson 4-10Getting more and more familiar with the musical staff and playing with both hands… together!
Lesson 2-3We will move to the musical staff around lesson 3 (depending on age of student). Adult students move much faster through lessons. You will play songs you recognize by this point!

Youth players
Working with kidsStarting piano lessons at age 6 when I child has mastered the alphabet is the best time! I will gage how the child learns and we will go at their pace.

Working with teenagersLessons with older beginners go at a faster pace and before you know it you will move to the style of music you’d like to learn to play!

What you need to bringNo requirements

What I can bringI will bring the lesson books if you don’t already have a set.

Sarah taught my 3 children in her home while we were all stationed in Alabama for two years. My kids range in ages 7-14 as well as different levels. They all enjoyed their lessons with her very much and we were all sad to go!

I was an adult student of Sarah’s and took about a years worth of lessons before I had to move. I brought in my own material and showed her what I had been working on by myself and what I’d like to accomplished and she worked with me to do that. I enjoyed the lessons.

Before we had to move, Sarah taught my 2 kids piano and they loved her! She was patient with them and could explain musical concepts to them at their level and age. We highly recommend her for a teacher!
