About your piano coach

Attention DFW!!! 40 years of formal training on piano, voice, acting & musical theatre! I am willing to travel to you or you can come to me. I specifically teach in the Dallas/ Mid-Citi area specifically the areas surrounding downtown, Carrollton/Lewisville, Irving, H-E-B area, Arlington, Grand Prairoe, Duncanville, Cedar Hill, Kennedale, Mansfield, and areas in between. I would absolutely LOVE to coach your kiddo(s)! Music and theatre are my passions- sharing it with others is my joy. For over 40 years, I have been a student- I am still actively learning and will do that for life! For 28 years, I've helped students find their voices and express themselves through piano, theatre, acting and singing. I have particular expertise in vocal training specifically for students who are looking to improve their choral singing, working to improve their R&B, pop, and jazz sound. My biggest specialty is Musical Theatre training including the acting part of that genre. Let's work together as a family team to unlock your student’s full artistic potential and spark the passion they’ll experience when they find their own unique place alongside our world’s incredible artists!🎬🎶🎭🎹🎤

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonGetting to know your student and the way in which they best learn and need me to teach them. For piano, Introduce black and white keys, and concepts of high and low. In vocal training, small simple warmups and silly songs to ease any stress. Theatre talk about acting and monologue. For all, pick a repertoire to work from for the upcoming week and a practice schedule for their journal.
Lesson 11+The sky is the limit! We will continue to work as a team for the student’s best interests and highestachievements.
Lesson 4-10Based on student commitment to practice, will begin to move more quickly through lesson repertoire for small fast accomplishments which keep student engaged and excited to learn..
Lesson 2-3Continue to learn new easily played pieces with one hand “C” or black keys positions. Begin vocalizing using new techniques of breath and volume. Begin working on body language and the power of spoken word. Continue working on repertoire. Set a goal for next lesson.

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonHave student perform for me to gauge their level and readiness.
Lesson 11+The sky is the limit- whatever your student is willing to put into preparing they will get back through performance. My motto: practice makes Permanent!”
Lesson 4-10Continue to work toward mastery of assigned repertoire and prepare for semester recitals, which I will host - one in December, one in June.
Lesson 2-3Assign new repertoire and begin to work warm-up exercises for hands or voice.

Youth players
Working with kidsI have worked with children as young as three, but have found except in rare instances, the earliest age to begin should be around five years. Exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis. Currently, I am a full time Arlington ISD elementary bilingual teacher with 400+ students grades k-6. And I cannot wait to add individual and small group lessons to my daily life again!

Working with teenagersLearning how to best reach a teenager is crucial for the learning process. By providing a safe space and person to take risks for is a huge deal! I have over 15 years working with teens and I’m very proud to say that over these years, some of my students have gone on to be accepted as Berkeley Jazz Vocal Studies, as the concert pianist in residence at Juliard, and a leading lady at the American Music and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) in New York to name just a few!

What you need to bringPlease ensure students have their music or any other books, any curriculum or worksheets I’ve asked them to work on , and ALWAYS have their (parent signed) lesson journal with them each week! Not only are we learning the dedication to an art, I hope to instill excellence in practice routines and the importance of high accountability - these things make a person much more likely to continue their pursuit of their art.

What I can bringFor lesson at your home, it is ideal to have a piano (I prefer acoustic - you can find them free everywhere on marketplace and Craigslist). If that just isn’t doable, an 88 weighted-key electric piano will work in the interim while we find your perfect piano addition for your home. For vocal, musical theatre and acting, a keyboard will suffice - it needs to have at least 56 keys (weighted not necessary). These instruments are especially important because good practice is key to great progress - let’s face it YouTube tutorials don’t make the cut! 😊 If you absolutely have no way to provide any sort of keyboard instrument in your home, please consider joining me at my home, where I have a fully tuned acoustic piano and a full weighted keyboard as well as sound system capabilities for vocalists and plenty of room to move for actors. If we need to figure out a creative solution in order to provide equipment to your home for lessons, simply reach out to our team of experts and they will help navigate that process with you!

Ms. Rachel is kind and patient she taught me singing and piano each week half and half. Now I can sing and play at church and I love it.
Olivia
Ms. Rachel taught us music camps each summer and also directed big musical theater shows like with costumes and everything. She is the best teacher and I miss her because I moved away 😭
Jaquin
I got in trouble all the time before Ms. C came and taught me I had talent in voice and music. I used to be in the office every day but last year I joined choir and turned it around. Now I’m going to middle school with a good reputation and a group of friends in choir.

Ms. C got me prepared for my college music audition in voice and I now in Cali at a four year university on an incredible scholarship I never would have gotten without her.
