Beginner training plan
Your first lessonFor your first lesson as beginner piano student with me, you will learn the notes on the piano, how to locate C, the C Major Scale, the C major and minor triad chords, proper playing posture, and an overview of the basics of music notation (which lines and spaces are which notes, staffs, bars, basic time signatures, quarter notes, eighth notes, half notes & their corresponding rests)
Lesson 11+Any lessons after 10 will follow the same structure as the ones before it, with the exception of more advanced notation information, more chords, more scales, and more songs.
Lesson 4-10From lesson 4 on, we will start with a brief 5 minute ungraded, low-stakes quiz on all of the terms we have previously learned. After that we will spend 5 minutes sight reading rhythm drills, before moving onto learning our first songs! We will start learning simple Jazz, Classical, and Contemporary Piano pieces. We will learn them by reading the music. During this portion I will l teach proper fingering while playing a piece. After we have spent most of the lesson time learning songs, we will conclude with a short, ear training quiz. Song and quiz difficulty will increase when progress is made by the student
Lesson 2-3Our second and third lessons will start with learning all the notes from C to C. From there we will begin learning chords. We will go over Major triad chords, Minor triad chords, & Major, Minor, dominant 7th chords. After we learn these chord shapes, we will briefly go over inversion. The second half of lessons 2 & 3 will focus on notation. We will begin with an overview of 1/4, 1/8 and 1/2 notes, their rests, as well as introducing dotted notes and ties. Then we will start rhythmic sight reading drills in 4/4 and 3/4, using all the note types we just learned.
