Beginner training plan
Your first lessonAssess students’ experience, musical knowledge, and technical skill to identify their needs and select appropriate repertoire, exercises, and instructional materials.
Lesson 11+With an easy, short piece, students are usually able to play the piece within 5–6 lessons, and they can keep expanding their repertoire as they continue lessons.
Lesson 4-10Students start to notice their progress in their piano playing. I provide written lesson notes every week so they know exactly what to work on and how to practice at home.
Lesson 2-3We will begin practical piano lessons right away using the sheet music or piano music book I select and provide for the student.
Youth players
Working with kidsAt my current school, I teach children ages 6 and older who come with basic music knowledge from their group‑lesson classes.
Working with teenagersMany teenage students become interested in playing music from films or video games, and I am open to working on whatever pieces they would like to learn.

Ark has been more than a piano teacher to us! He taught my son Jazz piano for 6 years now, and later jazz trio ensemble to both my sons and myself. He always took time to explain the theory as well as transcription and performance. To make sure the lesson is learned in detail, he makes notes of what is covered in class and what needs work for both the solo piano pieces as well as trio. He transcribes any song genre but made sure my son learned the jazz standards. All these notes and transcriptions were given to my son each class, as well as a CD recording gift at the end of each year. He is a great teacher and conductor and knows how to teach beginners to advanced, as my son progressed with him. A true jazz artist, and a natural teacher and mentor. We love him and highly recommend him!

I’ve had Ark teach piano to my 2 young boys for a few years now. It started off as in-person and then we moved to virtual since the pandemic. Ark has been an amazing teacher. My kids are able to keep their attention throughout their lessons and they enjoy their classes with Ark. I also treasure Ark’s Xmas gift each year. Throughout the year, he records the kids piano pieces once they’ve learnt it, and puts the whole year’s collection into a CD. He is an amazing teacher and we love him!
