About your music production instructor

I'm a musician, composer, and sound designer who has been playing and composing music for 15 years. I studied at Berklee College of Music for my Bachelor's of Music, where I regularly performed on trumpet, composed music for various forms of media, and designed audio and audio technologies. I worked as both composer and sound designer for films and games, in a variety of musical and audio styles, while releasing my own music.

Beginner training plan
Your first classFirst, I get to know the student and their experience. Then, I ask them their music/audio tastes and preferences, which lets me know how I'll construct the rest of the lesson. I react solely based on experience and their musical/audio preferences, and then construct a plan based on those. For instance, if a student really likes classic jazz, I'll go over some jazz theory and start to get them solo'ing.
Youth players
Working with kidsI'm always very cognizant that burn out can easily happen, so I always try to adapt my lessons to individual musical motivations and preferences. This includes selecting music of genuine interest and exercises in service of playing that music.
Working with teenagersLike with my younger students, I adapt to musical motivations and preferences. This includes things like starting band or college application prep, or preparing a composition for release on streaming services.

Toby helped refine my trumpet playing and technique. I was able to get to first chair trumpet in my school band with his help!
