Beginner training plan
Your first lessonUnderstanding the game, learning the history of the game, and basic stick handling is the focus of the first lesson.
This is when myself and the athletes will get to know about each other. I like to take this time to try and evaluate their learning style, athleticism, and body type. Every athlete is different and lacrosse caters to all athletes. It’s important to me as a coach to understand every athlete.
We will also go over the basics of catching, passing, and ground balls.
Lesson 11+After becoming familiar with the athlete and establishing their position on the field. I can fully tailor practices to optimize their learning, strength and conditioning, and overall experience with lacrosse. Practices will still include warmups, dynamic stretches, plyometrics/athletic training, fundamental work, positional work, concept work, and conditioning. However, practice plans will be scheduled accordingly to each athlete and where they are at mentally, physically, and emotionally.
Lesson 4-10At this point I may have a stronger understanding of the athlete and can try them out for different positions. As we start to ramp up their routine it’s important to focus not just on lacrosse but on strength and conditioning. Some days will be more lacrosse focused while other days will focus more on strength and conditioning. Schedules vary depending on the athlete.

Lesson 2-3Becoming comfortable and confident with our stick, understanding it as an extension of our body.
The main focus will be on details of how to properly hold the stick, cradle, play ground balls, move on the field.
For a beginner, they likely do not know what position best suits them. So I do not try to fit them into any position at this point. I will mainly run through fundamental drills to get a good evaluation of their skill set and strong points.
Every practice begins with a warm up lap and dynamic stretching.
