First guitar lesson will be about fundamentals. Names of guitar parts, string names (EADGBE), reading chord diagrams. Practice switching between 2 chords and learn to play a simple riff. As well as learning studentβs favorite song of choice. Students on their first lesson can expect an understanding on how to hold and play the guitar properly. Know the name of the 6 strings, begin learning song of their choice and leave with a clear practice plan for the week.
Lessons 2-3 will be about building finger strength and developing rhythm with new chords (Em, G, C) and switching between them. Weβll go over the importance of time and use of a metronome. Learn about quarter notes, eighth notes and basic strumming patterns. The goal is to be able to play a song on beat.
During lessons 4-10, students begin moving beyond the basics and develop the fundamental skills needed to play real songs confidently. Weβll cover scales, reading tablature, power chords, rhythm development, finger independence, and introductory music theory. Students will learn how songs are structured, improve their timing and technique, and start building the skills necessary for both rhythm and lead guitar playing. By the end of this phase, students will be able to learn many songs independently, play along with a metronome or backing track, and have a strong foundation for more advanced techniques.
Once the fundamentals are in place, lessons become more personalized based on each students interest and goals. Students will learn intermediate and advanced techniques such as barre chords, improvisation, bends, vibrato, fretboard navigation, soloing, ear training, music theory, and song analysis. Whether the goal is playing favorite songs, writing original music, improving lead guitar skills, or preparing for live performances, lessons will be tailored to help students continue growing with confidence. At this stage, students gain the tools to become more independent musicians and develop their own unique playing style.
