About your guitar coach
Hello. My name is Matthew. I started playing guitar at age 13. I play many different styles of music as well as different styles of guitar. I enjoy playing melodic soft acoustic and also heavy distorted electric guitar. I like to teach in a fun upbeat way that helps to engage the students in learning the fundamentals and to begin creating music as soon as possible. There are many things to learn and understand in the journey of guitar playing and it's my goal to break down these concepts in the easiest way to help encourage students to stay engaged with this amazing instrument. Beginner training plan
Your first lessonThe first lesson is assessing how skilled the student is in the subject they would like to learn. For first time students, I have a few pages of essential details for all beginners to learn. Learning the style and needs of the student is a must to begin how to approach the next lessons. There are many different genres of music and each has their own unique way of learning.
Lesson 11+For guitar, the next lessons will depend on how well the student is learning. After learning how to form the basic open chords, learning power chords and bar chords is next. Then learning how to pick these chords with a guitar pick of fingerpicking as well as learning proper strumming techniques. I like to get my students playing the music they enjoy as quickly as possible so they stay motivated and interested. For singing, these also depends on how quickly the student is picking up the exercises. Singing has a lot to do with confidence and knowing how to sing properly directly into a microphone. I have all these tools to teach firsthand how to develop your own voice and step into being a powerful singer with presence.
Lesson 4-10For guitar, I teach scales that will train the student on how to create interesting melodies and we can even learn simple songs that the student enjoys. I teach how to read and write guitar tabs to be able to play along with any songs. For singing, I start to work on pitch control and stabilization as well as learning to control plosives.
Lesson 2-3Next lessons for guitar include how to form basic chord structures and melodies. Learning to play the basic chords is vital to play any songs. For singing, learning warm ups and breathing exercises as well as breath control techniques.

Working with kidsEveryone beginning starts at the same place so the teaching doesn't differ from age. I have a great starting point and approach for all age levels.

What you need to bringStudents learning guitar should have their own guitar. Students wanting to learn to sing don't need anything except the courage to step outside of their comfort zone and use their voice in ways they haven't been used too.
What I can bringThe equipment that I can bring to guitar lessons are an acoustic nylon string guitar for myself to show chord structures and melodies. I also have a speaker used either for an electric guitar or acoustic electric as well as for singing lessons with a microphone.
