I hold an AAS in Guitar Performance and am a few credits shy of a BA in Music from UTA. With over 19 years of teaching experience, I've shared my passion with students of all ages and styles. Currently, I weave melodic tales as the guitarist for La Pompe Dallas (Gypsy Jazz), the upright bassist for Justin Pickard and the Thunderbird Winos (Best Americana Dallas 2023) and The Vinyl Stripes (Rockabilly & Surf). My musical journey spans classic rock, blues, bluegrass, country, swing, gypsy jazz, rockabilly, and more. Jazz Pianist Bernard Wright mentored me as a bassist in his Jazz trio for several years. I explored diverse instruments like piano, clarinet, mandolin, dobro, oud, and African percussion. Songwriting is a forte, having been a finalist in Dallas contests. In addition to music, I once designed Media Matrix audio gear for Peavey Electronics but chose the path of playing and teaching music over-engineering. Mark teaches me how to play my favorite country tunes by people like Luke Combs, Tyler Hubbard and Drew Green. He just listens to the song, writes some chords down and teshows what new things I need to learn, then brings the chords with words in next week. He helps me learn strumming patterns and simplifies any chords or rythms that are too hard or frustrating.

Mark taught me basic chords and showed me how to find and learn my favorite tunes from online tabs. Now he's teaching me theory, triads, chords, scales, arpeggios and showing me how to use these to improvise and compose. He also helps me find better fingerings that make it easier to play what I'm working on.

Mark showed me some chords but my hands were too small so we switched to a book for kids. Now I can play some big chords and read notes. He also taught me how to play The Joker for my mom.

What you need to bringStudent should have an instrument and trimmed fingernails on the left hand (or right hand if playing a left handed instrument) A guitar strap, capo, picks and guitar tuner are encouraged but not necessary. (I can recommend free tuner apps for your device)
What I can bringFor electric guitar an amp and cable are not required but you can use one of my amps if you choose to come to my studio 😉

If you need to cancel your lesson, no worries! You can get a full refund if you cancel within 24 hours of making your booking. We want to make the process as hassle-free as possible for you.

And if you simply want to reschedule your lesson, change the date and time, or adjust the number of students joining, we've got you covered there too. You can easily make these changes within 24 hours of booking, and up to 72 hours before your lesson starts.
