My musical journey began at the age of 5, and since then, I've immersed myself in harmony, composition, and improvisation. My self-taught approach, fueled by record transcribing and bibliographic studies, laid the foundation for exploring various ensembles and delving into composition and performance. Inspired by the genius of Bill Evans, John Coltrane, and other master improvisers, I embarked on a profound study of the art of improvisation. In 2018, I brought my music to life on stages across the Chicago Area, creating immersive live experiences. Simultaneously, I've been sharing my knowledge through private lessons focused on theory and performance. Awards: 2015: Selected for a $30,000 scholarship from the Berklee College of Music in Boston. 2006: Co-founded Guajazz, awarded "Revelation Jazz Group of the Year" by the Guayaquil Jazz Project. Very talented, professional musician - great experience! I have nothing but accolades to give Mario Duenas and his band. I volunteered to help host a holiday corporate event for our office of 300 employees and offered to find musical entertainment for the party. I came upon Mario Duenas performing at another event and was given Mario's business card. Mario was exceptional to work with. As mentioned in other reviews, he asked alot of questions about the venue, the music we were looking for, the stage layout etc and provided me with recommendations. He stayed in close contact as we worked through the details. He and his band arrived in ample time to ensure they were ready to go right on time. Their music set the cool jazz ambience of the party and several individuals mentioned the music made the party such a success. I highly recommend Mario Duenas and his band for any corporate events - and quite honestly I will look to book him for any private events I will have in the future! Thank you Mario!

Fabulous, Professional & Friendly Band I love love love the Mario Dueñas Trio! I hired the band for my Holiday Party and they were incredible at every step of the process. Mario called a few days before the event to discuss formalities like parking, layout, dress code, etc. He was kind, professional, and extremely accommodating. The day of my event, the band arrived early to set up. Their display was efficient and pretty. The band played for 2 hours and took a few breaks (which was ideal because it gave my guests an opportunity to mingle). The musicians chatted with my guests, which I really appreciated, and were extremely friendly. The band played a mix of holiday music and jazz standards. They even took a song request! So, if you are looking for a wonderful jazz band for your event- I highly recommend Mario Dueñas Trio! I will definitely be rebooking for future functions.

Mario Went Above and Beyond Both of my grandparents passed earlier this year and last minute my family decided we wanted a jazz pianist to play at the celebration lunch. I am currently living in Austin, Texas, so I had no music connections in Chicago. I got connected with Mario and was blown away by his communication and eagerness to play! My grandfather was a veteran as well as a long-standing musician in the city of Chicago. Mario played beautifully for my friends and family for two hours and it was the perfect addition to help honor the life of my incredible grandparents. Mario was sensitive, professional, and will move you with the way he plays!

Taste, class, sophistication Booked Mario and his band to play during cocktail hour at my wedding. Brought a level of class and sophistication to the party. Mario was super communicative throughout the whole process and we traded ideas with our shared love for Coltrane, Miles, Bill Evans. PHENOMENAL MUSICIAN! Mario was amazing! He was professional, courteous, and prompt! We had more in attendance than expected and Mario adjusted and serviced a bigger crowd.
