Beginner training plan
Your first lessonWe will talk about you goals, assess skill level, and talk about your musical influences. You will leave this lesson with something new to work on according to the discussion in the lesson
Lesson 11+By this point we should be able to play songs together and we can keep working on proficiency across the board. I’ll probably start integrating music theory to enhance your knowledge and we will hopefully begin to get into improvisation. We will also re-asses goals and get you working toward your next musical journey
Lesson 4-10We will split the lesson in half by spending time in technique and efficiency on the instrument then go into working on a song of your choice to apply your new skills
Lesson 2-3We will start with the basics of the instrument and begin working on technique, chords, picking, and music terminology

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonAccess proficiency and discuss goals and influences
Lesson 11+At this point, I will try to open up your horizons to stuff you may be uncomfortable with to make you a more well-rounded player and then have you drive the bus and I will continue to provide you with any information I have about your specific goals and ideas
Lesson 4-10By this point I’m expecting g huge progress and will re-assess and figure out where you want to go with your new abilities. I want to focus heavily on your interests!
Lesson 2-3Find songs that we can apply goals into and break down what is needed to execute at a high level.

Youth players
Working with kidsI always try to keep it fun while teaching them the basics of music and keeping them excited about the guitar!

“I studied guitar and music production with Josh for about 3 years during high school. He was great at highlighting my interests in our lessons, always keeping my goals first. During Covid restrictions, he quickly altered our zoom lessons to focusing on creating my own music which I found to be super inspiring and fun. I was able to accomplish a lot with Josh and he was always professional and great to work with”

“I began guitar lessons with Josh at age 14 after joining my middle school jazz band. With no prior experience with jazz music, Josh quickly made me feel comfortable in the jazz idiom. With his guidance, I learned how to work within a jazz ensemble and play improvised solos. Further, our lessons reached far beyond jazz music. Josh improved my music theory knowledge, expanded my music tastes, and shaped me into a well-rounded guitarist. I now attend the University of Florida studying classical guitar performance and am a member of the school’s top jazz ensemble. Josh’s teaching was instrumental in my success and passion for music.”

“I studied guitar with Josh for about 10 lessons over zoom and it was super fun! He kept it entertaining and provided me with practice materials at the end of every lesson and stayed available to help when I had questions outside of lesson times. When I mentioned I was interested in maybe trying the piano as well, Josh was happy to split our lesson times in half for beginner piano and guitar so I could try both. He was adaptable and was focused on helping me pursue any musical journey I wanted to take”
