Beginner training plan
Your first lessonBasic fundamentals of what the guitar is. What are your goals? Who are some of your favorite bands and artists? What inspired you to start playing guitar?
Lesson 11+Developing a practical vocabulary of knowledge in different musical styles, all while catering to the desires of the individual students based on the music that inspires them.
Lesson 4-10Fretting notes and begin working on reading the notes starting with the low and high e strings in lesson 4, working our way through all strings by understanding what whole notes are, and moving up and down the strings in half step increments, learning the nature of sharps and flats and their position on all 6 strings, by lesson 10 being able to confidently identify all notes on the guitar fretboard, and playing beginner single string melodies and song ideas using that knowledge
Lesson 2-3Begin with parts of the guitar and the notes of open strings in E Standard tuning. Practice posture and becoming comfortable with your instrument.
Advanced training plan
Your first lessonGather an understanding of where they are in their guitar journey, and create a preliminary first lesson for them to showcase the strengths of their playing, as well as the weaknesses and desired areas for improvement.
Lesson 11+Honing the technique they have developed through their hard work and dedication. Playing over backing tracks, live jams, and learning new material to further advance their repertoire.
Lesson 4-10Expand on the ideas of lessons 2-3 by applying those exercises to real world examples. Crafting creative guitar pieces, improvising over chord changes, exotic scales.
Lesson 2-3Craft applicable exercises to fit the needs of the player with respect to their preferred genre, while also taking a practical approach to those exercises that they can apply to all areas of their playing such as: chord extensions and arpeggios, hand synchronization, scales patterns, modal function, improvisation, etc.
Youth players
Working with teenagersKeep lessons grounded in an interesting way that hyperfocuses their attention on what they are learning. Playing the guitar should be fun! It should never feel like work.
