About your guitar coach

My musical story began at age 4 when I first embraced the guitar. Transitioning through private lessons at Brickhouse Music and Smith Music College, I earned my Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance in 2013. Playing in diverse bands across genres like jazz, blues, and rock, I've devoted the last 13 years to sharing my knowledge through private lessons for youth and adults. Overcoming vision impairment challenges, I've come to see music as a healing tool, fueling my deep passion for teaching. 2018, I proudly opened the Shedore School of Music, inviting others to join me on a transformative musical journey.

Beginner training plan
Your first lesson The first lessons I like to get my students to know how to properly hold the guitar. I go over tuning and names of the strings. I will show them basic picking techniques, basic chords, some simple melodies like Star Wars. I like to get to know my students on their goals what lead them to want to pickup a guitar and favite artists and genres. I also show different chromatic stretching techniques.
Lesson 11+For the remaining lessons with weekly check ins I asses where they are with what we have been focusing on and give positive feedback and develop a plan for moving forward in their musical journey.
Lesson 4-10My students learn some more basic chords and then slowly start the a minor pentatonic scales. During each of my lessons I like to incorporate a bit of Music Theory to start to understand the musical language.
Lesson 2-3A student can expect to learn some basic strumming patterns. Working on chord switching and start a simple chord song like GNR Knocking on heavens door or Ain't No Sunshine Bill Withers.

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonI check in to see what they know already such as scales chords tunes and so on. Will review what they know.
Lesson 11+The remaining lessons I like to introduce my students to basic improvv techniques. I also like to go through diatonic triads in all 12 keys.
Lesson 4-10Will incorporate Music Theory and apply concepts of chord progressions, scales major minor.
Lesson 2-3Will pick a topic to focus on whether it be note location, scale reviews chord reviews and add different ways to play chords through the neck.

Youth players
Working with kidsI adapt with which age they start. I am very patient and the big thing is I stress is to have fun. I work with my students to make sure they feel comfortable with holding the guitar and work on slow repetition of small hand exercises fretting note pressure and single line melodies like Happy Birthday.

Working with teenagersWith teenagers i focus a lot on their musical interests, styles artists and develop a plan to work towards songs they would like to learn.

What you need to bringEach student should come to their lessons with their instrument tuned and class materials ready. I suggest to bring a notebook and pencil to take notes if you like.

What I can bringI have amps cables and spare guitar if a student forgets theirs as well as pics.

I knew I needed individual guitar instruction but was always hesitant because I knew I was terrible and was worried about frustrating an instructor. Dan's nature immediately eased all of my worries and made me wonder why I didn't do it sooner. He is an excellent instructor and has the patience of a saint. He tactfully pointed out areas I needed work on and was also quick to point out things I was doing well. He would spend as much time as needed on something I was struggling with and would always make sure I was comfortable before we moved on to something new. He's an extremely talented player himself and was very good at noticing things that I didn't even realize I was doing. If I was starting to develop a bad habit, etc., he always had a suggestion or something I could try to help me over a certain hurdle. There are many good guitar players, but not all of them make good instructors. Dan seems to have a passion for both playing and instructing, and he certainly has the talent for both. I would recommend him to anyone who has an interest in either learning to play or becoming a better player.

If you are looking for guitar lessons in surrounding areas of Hudson, WI - you have come to the right spot. Dan Shedore has been teaching guitar lessons to my 9 year old son for the past two years. Dan is incredible on the guitar, so authentic and extremely talented. His passion for music is so apparent. Dan's lessons are fun, interactive, calming and supportive, directly respond to my son's skill level and interests. We are so fortune to have such a great instructor in Hudson, WI. I highly recommend Dan, you will not be discouraged! Thank you Dan!

Dan is one crazy good guitarist who really knows his stuff. I've been one of his students for around almost four years now and he has taught me so so much from the fundamental basics to full blown guitar theory. I always look forward to my weekly jams with Dan, he's an incredibly skilled, knowledgeable, and experienced guitarist who's incredibly fun to listen to as well as play along with. He's helped me achieve a plethora of different skills, so if you're looking into picking up guitar and taking lessons, Dan is the man to go to.

Dan is an excellent instructor. In a relatively short period of time, he was able to teach me a myriad of techniques that greatly improved my skill. He always made a point to answer any questions pertaining to music, and when he was not sure, he would come to the next lesson with an answer. Dan pushed me to learn faster than I thought I could, but it was the motivation I needed to accomplish the assignments, and when I did not grasp something, he would spend however much time necessary working with me until understood it.

Dan understands guitar theory to an incredible level and provides this foundation in a digestible way in his lessons. In just a couple short months I have been able to go from complete beginner to understanding core theory while picking up a few songs along the way. I love the extra level of personalization he provides. I will definitely be sticking with Dan and his lessons and would recommend to anyone looking to actually learn guitar with a solid foundation.

Dan is a pleasure to work with. I'm no young pup, so my brain is not the thirsty sponge like a kid. Dan's patience, and layed back style will get you where you wanna be, even if you never picked up a guitar before. He really knows his stuff. Give it a shot.
