I had a great experience taking lessons with Brian. I wanted to learn some complex riffs from songs and he was able to break it down in simple terms. I was amazed at how simple concepts on music theory can lead to some really interesting sounds.

I’ve taken a handful of lessons from Brian, and in a short time have noticed improvement in my playing. Brian taught me useful ear training exercises that allow me to quickly learn songs and play the notes I hear in my head.
Ben
Brian is a great teacher! I was struggling with applying theory to improvisation and understanding songs, and he was able to make it make sense. He was patient and had tremendous insight into practical approaches to learning guitar and music.

Brian is a great guitar player and gave me a lot of guidance in getting started. I felt lucky to have a patient teacher that was interested in my musical taste and could help me with technique and fundamentals.

Brian is a great teacher! I focus on singer songwriter styles and his approach to creating melody and finding the right chords to harmonize was awesome. I have so many more options now!

Beginner training plan
Your first lesson-Discuss goals with music and guitar playing -Go over fundamentals of technique and music theory to get a foundation of where we are at. -It doesn’t matter if you’ve never played a note. -Create a 3 month plan that meets you at your current skill level and takes into account your goals.
Lesson 11+-Understanding song construction and theory to compose your own music. -Beginning improvisation using basic scales and chord strumming.
Lesson 4-10-Begin feeling more comfortable and confident on the instrument. -Basic chords, scales, theory, and ear training. -Understanding major and minor intervals, and how to determine the key of a song. -Developing dexterity
Lesson 2-3-Diving into guitar technique alongside theory exploration. -It’s always more efficient to practice two things simultaneously. -Save time for discovering musical taste and begin learning basic patterns that can be applied to songs. -Developing a practice routine.

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonAdvanced players would inform me of their goals on the instrument , what’s difficult, where they need to improve, etc. -Devise a lesson plan to target weak areas and break down a practice routine into specific chunks. For example, improv over a jazz progression, 12 bar blues, or theory analysis of their favorite songs.
Lesson 11+-Expanding on skills in different styles of music. For example, fingerstyle, classical , jazz. -Advanced guitar tapping, legato, and transposing any music by ear.
Lesson 4-10-Improve theory awareness and ear training by analyzing students favorite songs. -Create practice routine and exercises that will elevate difficult to play passages. -Metronome discipline and creativity.
Lesson 2-3-Dive into new techniques and specific exercises to break out of stubborn habits and implement new patterns. -Ear training and song analysis exercises. -Specific take home digital PDFs and backing tracks to practice to

Youth players
Working with kidsIt’s important to find out why they want to play guitar and what interests and excites them. By sharing the interest and excitement, I’m able to create lessons that generate a passion for guitar and enable quick learning in a fun way.

Working with teenagersUnderstand the goals of the student and what they want out of guitar playing. Provide guidance and feedback about their playing and a plan to improve and be successful.

What you need to bringStudents would need their own guitar.

What I can bringIf at my studio, students would only need guitar and picks/accessories (capo). I would bring my own practice amp to travel..
