About your golf coach

In addition to coaching Pickleball, I am deeply passionate about golf—a game I’ve loved since 2007. Over the years, I’ve not only dedicated myself to improving my own skills but also found joy in sharing the game with others. Each year, I volunteer at the Celebrity Tournament, an experience that keeps me connected to the excitement and community of the sport. One of my most memorable moments was playing in a tournament alongside a professional golfer. That experience shifted my perspective from an amateur’s approach to seeing the game through a pro’s vision—completely transforming how I play and how I teach. My goal is to help others make that same leap in their game, whether you’re just starting out or looking to sharpen your skills. Golf is more than just a sport—it’s a great way to spend quality time with friends and family, enjoy the outdoors, and stay active. If you’re ready to learn, I’d love to help you take your first swing and discover all the joy golf has to offer.

Youth players
Working with kidsPractice Structure I’d Use A typical beginner teen session might look like: * 10 min putting games * 15 min chipping * 20 min iron fundamentals * 10 min fun challenge or contest * End with driver swings or course play Keeping sessions moving helps maintain focus and energy. ⸻ Teach Golf Etiquette Early I’d also teach: * Pace of play * Respect for others * Course care * Safety * Sportsmanship Golf is unique because character matters as much as skill. ⸻ Most Important Goal My biggest coaching priority would be helping them fall in love with the game. A teenager who enjoys golf will naturally improve because they’ll want to practice and play more.

Working with teenagersTeaching a teenager golf is usually a mix of fundamentals, confidence-building, and keeping the game fun enough that they actually want to keep practicing. Here’s the approach I’d take as a coach: Start With Fun First For teens, enjoyment matters as much as technique early on. I’d avoid overloading them with mechanics on day one. The first goal is: * Make solid contact * See the ball fly * Build confidence quickly I’d mix games, challenges, and friendly competition into lessons instead of making it feel like a lecture. ⸻ Build the Fundamentals Step by Step 1. Grip Everything starts with the grip. I’d teach: * Neutral hand placement * Light grip pressure * Athletic comfort instead of stiffness Most teens grip the club way too tight at first. ⸻ 2. Athletic Setup Since many teens play other sports, I’d connect golf to movements they already know. I’d coach: * Feet shoulder-width apart * Slight knee bend * Straight but relaxed posture * Arms hanging naturally If they play sports like tennis, baseball, or pickleball, I’d use those comparisons to help them understand rotation and balance. ⸻ 3. Learn the Short Game First A lot of beginners want to hit drivers immediately, but I’d start with: * Putting * Chipping * Pitch shots Why? Because short game develops: * Feel * Tempo * Confidence * Touch around the greens Plus, success comes faster. ⸻ 4. Teach Swing Basics Without Overcomplicating Instead of technical jargon, I’d focus on simple concepts: * Balance * Rhythm * Turning the body * Finishing the swing I’d avoid trying to “perfect” the swing too early. Teens improve faster when they swing naturally first. ⸻ Coaching Mentality & Confidence Teen golfers can get frustrated quickly. I’d constantly reinforce: * Bad shots are normal * Golf is a long-term game * Progress matters more than perfection One thing I’d say often: “Your next shot is more important than your last shot.” That mindset helps both in golf and life.

What you need to bringBring your own golf clubs so you can practice with them. Need to wear proper golf shoes and bring water to stay hydrated.

Coach Katherine is very knowledgeable when it comes to proper technique and mechanics. I have learned to properly set up and my form is beautifully aligned to make consistent contact with the ball. I’m very comfortable and confident on the course after taking 5 lessons with her. Totally recommend her for anyone interested to get started learning golf.
Lisa Tran
Coach Katherine is the kind of coach that makes learning fun. I never thought I would pick up a golf club but with Katherine, it’s really easy peasy like Sunday morning. She teaches me to believe in myself and I can achieve anything, so I am mentally stronger and determined to learn how to play golf. Deep down I know if I try my best, I can learn to be the best at anything even golf. Thank you Coach Katherine
