About your golf coach

Unlock your golfing potential with personalized instruction. I began playing golf at age 7, started playing competitively at age 10, was a successful junior player and played in several national level events. I went to college to become a golf professional. I followed that path after graduating for 6 years and earned PGA Class A Professional accreditation while at Ruth Lake Country Club in Hinsdale, IL. While working as a professional, I gave countless lessons to players of all abilities ranging from juniors just starting the game, to elite level junior players at the high school level, ladies, seniors, and even handicapped/disabled golfers. While I left the PGA Pro life for a career in technology in the Golf Industry, I have remained a lifelong student of the dynamics of golf swing, short game, and all aspects of the game. I play 70+ rounds each year and love to compete or just play for fun. One thing I know, Golf is not one-size-fits-all sport, fun can be had at all levels if you match the course to your ability and the approach to play that aligns with to your athletic capabilities. I prefer to tailor my approach to each student and what goals they are trying to achieve. Whether you're just starting to learn the game, or been playing for years and just struggling with a few things, I can help get you on track and working on sound principles and fundamentals. Let's get started on a track to better, more enjoyable golf.

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonFor a true beginner, we start with the basics. We’ll go over the basics of playing the game of golf, what’s the point of it? Why is it so popular? Keep it simple and learn grip, posture, alignment and take a few swings, usually no golf ball involved. You’ll leave with a comfort level of what to do, where to go, and how the game “works”.
Lesson 11+We’ll get playing on the course, or simulate play on the range. Moving from long game shots, to short game shots, introduce bunkers and sand shots, and the different setups for different situations.
Lesson 4-10Here’s where we’ll start focusing on specific shots for specific scenarios - spending equal time on the each area - long game, short game, and putting. We’ll continue building on the fundamentals of posture, grip, and alignment (from lesson 1). But also about how the club does a lot of the work for you and how to use that to your advantage.
Lesson 2-3We’ll start to get into full swings, short game swings, and putting. The focus is on building a foundation of repetition of fundamentals. We still won’t focus on what’s happening during your swing, or where the ball is going, but rather how to approach the different scenarios- long game, short game, putting. They have different approaches for different outcomes and there’s a lot of options- no one method or approach is correct for everyone.

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonAssess your current game, why are you here… what are your goals, and how you have approached achieving those goals before taking this lesson. We’ll then get some swings on video to set a baseline and/or discuss an approach that we can agree on to achieve your goals. Some changes are more difficult than others. This lesson is less about a quick fix than it is an understanding of how you got here and where you want to go. We’ll hit plenty of balls, and there will be instructions, but there’s a baseline of information sharing that sets the tone for improvement and understanding.
Lesson 4-10Reinforcing fundamentals, studying launch and impact data, and refining the mental approach to playing your best.
Lesson 2-3Future lessons will be more focused on drills to reinforce and train techniques, as well as some exercises in mental approaches to helping to achieving your goals. The lessons a more fluid and results oriented.

What you need to bringStudents should bring an open mind to learning new things and their full assortment of clubs you own or can borrow from a friend, if you are brand new to the game and don’t own or can borrow clubs, we can arrange for rentals or I can bring some clubs for you. Also, you might want to get a golf glove if you prefer to wear one (can prevent blisters on hands), and please remember to dress in proper golf attire as posted by the location. I provide the golf balls and tees.

What I can bringI don’t use technology on beginners or very young players. If you’re an advanced player we can meet at a simulator bay that registers ball speed, spin rate, and physics of the impact to dial in on specific areas for improvement
