Beginner training plan
Your first lessonIn the first lesson, I focus on evaluating the player’s athleticism, body control, and familiarity with football fundamentals. We start with a dynamic warm-up and basic footwork drills. Then I introduce stance, catching mechanics, and hand-eye coordination exercises. The goal is to build comfort, establish trust, and keep things fun and positive. I explain how the sessions will work moving forward and emphasize progress over perfection.
Lesson 11+After 10+ lessons, beginners should look and feel more like athletes. Lessons now emphasize technique mastery, speed, decision-making, and performance under pressure. I implement more advanced route combos, quick reaction drills, and game-speed reps. Players begin to understand game scenarios, pre-snap reads, and adjustments. I also work on leadership, communication, and accountability — developing them into smart, coachable players ready for higher-level play or team tryouts.
Lesson 4-10By this stage, players develop consistency and can handle more challenging drills. I start teaching timing, sharper route breaks, release moves off the line, and catching in motion. We introduce defensive recognition (man vs. zone concepts) and ball security. Players work on reaction drills and light competition (1v1, mirror drills). Film review and game-like walkthroughs begin, helping build situational awareness. The focus is skill sharpening and building confidence through repetition and small wins.
Lesson 2-3Lessons 2 and 3 focus on reinforcing the basics and introducing movement with purpose. We continue to improve catching technique, stance, and footwork, while adding beginner-level route running (e.g., slant, out, go). I introduce light agility drills (ladder, cones) to build coordination. We also talk about football IQ — field awareness, position names, and simple terminology. Each drill ends with positive correction and praise.
