Beginner training plan
Your first lessonWe will talk about the student’s specific goals and I will tailor a lesson plan that meets their needs. I will also assess where the student is in terms of playing and find effective ways to help them improve. If they are a complete beginner we will work on producing a consistent sound and I will introduce the G major scale to get them started. Apart from that, my teaching style is all about meeting the student where they are and finding ways to help improve that meet goals they have set themselves. I would also like to talk about musicality in a broad sense so we can find connections with the music they listen to now and the music they want to make on the flute.
Lesson 11+For these lessons, I would love to focus on consistent improvements in technique and musicality. What were the goals they came into lessons with and what are those goals now? Have they changed and is there a new route they’d like to take? I want to connect back to the reasons they wanted to make music in the first place and see where we can go to develop their musicality and musical voice.
Lesson 4-10In these lessons, I would like to focus on establishing a clean, consistent technique throughout the instrument as well as find ways to make practicing flute fun and satisfying. If the student has specific things they would like to learn, depending on the level of the piece(s) they want to play, I want to get them working on those pieces as soon as possible.
Lesson 2-3I’d like to help the student get acquainted with the flute so we could go through some improvising exercises as well as some easy pieces and written technique exercises. I can walk the student through how to practice efficiently so we can make full use of each lesson.
What you need to bringBring a flute, a cleaning swab, and any music you are currently working on.
What I can bringI can bring copies of various exercises for all levels to each lesson. I will bring music books and copies of standard pieces. Music stands will also be available.
