Beginner training plan

Your first lessonThe first lesson is less about covering a lot of content and more about building comfort, confidence, and understanding the student’s starting point. My approach: 1. Build rapport * Introduce yourself and learn about the student’s interests, strengths, and goals. * Create a positive, low-pressure environment. 2. Assess prior knowledge * Ask questions or provide simple tasks to determine what the student already knows. * Identify strengths, areas of need, and preferred learning styles. 3. Establish expectations and routines * Explain how lessons will be structured. * Review materials, supports, and expectations in a clear and simple way. 4. Teach a small, manageable skill * Introduce one concept at a time. * Use modeling, visual supports, guided practice, and examples. * Focus on early success rather than mastery. 5. Provide support and feedback * Offer prompts and guidance as needed. * Use positive reinforcement frequently to build confidence. 6. Check for understanding * Have the student demonstrate the skill independently or explain it in their own words. * Adjust instruction based on their responses. 7. End with success * Review what was learned. * Celebrate effort and progress. * Preview what will come next.

Lesson 2-3Lesson 2–3, the focus typically shifts from getting to know the student to establishing routines and building foundational skills. Lesson 2 Goal: Reinforce the first skill and increase student participation. * Briefly review what was learned in Lesson 1. * Check for retention and understanding. * Continue modeling, but encourage the student to do more of the work independently. * Introduce a related skill or a small extension of the original concept. * Use guided notes, visuals, examples, and frequent feedback. * Identify any misconceptions early and reteach as needed. Lesson 3 Goal: Increase independence and confidence. * Begin with a quick review or warm-up. * Have the student demonstrate the previously learned skill with less support. * Introduce another connected skill or apply the skill in a new context. * Continue providing accommodations and supports, but gradually fade prompts when appropriate. * Encourage self-monitoring and problem-solving. * End with reflection on progress and next steps.

Lesson 4-10Lessons 4–10, the focus is typically on strengthening foundational skills, increasing independence, and helping the student apply what they have learned in different situations. Lessons 4–5 * Review previously taught concepts and address any gaps in understanding. * Introduce new skills that build upon the foundation established in earlier lessons. * Continue using guided notes, visual supports, models, and examples. * Provide structured practice opportunities with teacher support. * Encourage the student to begin using strategies independently. Lessons 6–7 * Increase the complexity of tasks while maintaining appropriate supports. * Provide opportunities for the student to apply skills in a variety of contexts. * Encourage self-monitoring, organization, and problem-solving skills. * Gradually reduce prompts and scaffolds as the student demonstrates mastery. * Use ongoing feedback and positive reinforcement to promote confidence and persistence. Lessons 8–10 * Focus on generalizing skills across assignments, subjects, or settings. * Increase independent work and student ownership of learning. * Monitor progress toward established goals and adjust instruction as needed. * Continue providing accommodations and technological supports when appropriate. * Reinforce successful strategies and celebrate growth and achievements

What you need to bringThe student will be responsible for managing and maintaining their school materials, including writing utensils, notebooks, and assigned coursework. Support will be provided as needed to help the student complete specific assignments and stay organized. .

What I can bringThe teacher will provide instruction through direct teaching of lesson content and will support student learning by offering guided notes, visual supports, models, and examples. Additional support will include one-on-one assistance and guided practice as needed to promote understanding and successful task completion. The teacher will also provide access to appropriate technological supports, including speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and digital organizational tools. Ongoing positive reinforcement and constructive feedback will be used to encourage student engagement, build confidence, and support academic progress.

About your english tutor

I am a Special Education teacher with a masters degree in Special Education and an English 6-12 t12 endorsement. I earned my education and teaching credentials in Virginia and have my credentials in California as well. I’ve worked with students across K through 12 settings, with the majority of my experience at the high school level. Throughout my career, I have taught self-contained and inclusive classrooms, including teaching my own self-contained English class for grades 9- 12 and collaborating in general education English and History classrooms. I am passionate about creating engaging, interactive lessons that meet students where they are and connect learning to their interest and strengths. My teaching philosophy is centered on building strong relationships with students and families. I believe that when educator’s parents and students work together as a team, students are empowered to achieve their greatest potential. I am known for my strong communication skills and commitment to keeping families informed and involved on their child’s progress. I’ve been honored to receive teacher of the month three times and the Capes for Coaches award for utilizing creative technology and innovative instruction practices in the classroom. I also led my schools STEAM Day initiative for three consecutive years, coordinating cross curricular learning experience that engaged students and staff alike. In addition to supporting students, I am passionate about supporting fellow educators. I served as a mentor teacher for student teacher, providing guidance, coaching, and encouragement as they entered the profession. I love working, supporting and teaching any one of no matter the age. My goal is to create a positive, inclusive learning environment, where students feel valued, supported, and excited to learn. I believe that when students enjoy learning and feel connected to their education, they gained the confidence and skills needed to succeed in both school and beyond.
