About your drum coach

For over a decade, I've been expressing myself and speaking my truth through drumming, and now I am excited to instill that same passion to the musicians of the next generation. My approach blends technical mastery with creative exploration, as well as utilizing pre-existing music to teach concepts, culminating in a fun and supportive environment where your musicality can flourish. Let's unlock your rhythmic potential together!

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonTeaching the very basics of drumming, including what each drum is, their function, as well as basic music theory, such as counting to four in each measure, and rhythm.
Lesson 11+Moving on, we will start to put these concepts together by learning a basic rock song. Song choice will depend on information absorption and skill level.
Lesson 4-10We will now begin to learn variations on the basic beat, adding different rhythms in both the kick drum and snare drum. We will also go over the concept of drum fills, what they’re meant for, and concepts of improvisation.
Lesson 2-3We will learn our first beat, what I like to call the basic rock beat. We will focus on playing in time, as well as quarter note and eighth note pulses.

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonFirst and foremost, I need to spend the first lesson getting a good idea of their skill level and identifying any weaknesses I can use these lessons to strengthen.
Lesson 11+Continuing on from lessons 2-3 and expanding on concepts.
Lesson 4-10Continuing on from lessons 2-3 and expanding on concepts.
Lesson 2-3These next lessons are more open ended depending on the skill set of these students. I likely would give them a song to learn on their own and play for me. This song would be used to teach concepts these drummers might not have a mastery of yet.

Youth players
Working with kidsI focus more on making sure they have fun doing what they do first and foremost, focusing less on constructive criticism, and more on making sure they master the simpler concepts while enjoying themselves.

Working with teenagersI usually work with them on more advanced musical concepts, as well as keep their lessons more open-ended, as each teen might have a different idea on what they want to get out of these lessons.

What you need to bringI will teach lessons at student homes so they will need to own a drum set in order to do these lessons with me.

What I can bringSticks, and headphones.
