Beginner training plan
Your first lessonStart by seeing where the student is with the skill they want to learn. Then start teaching them simple and useful mechanics they haven’t yet learned to get them acclimated. Finally, have them try doing something simple on their own with no expectations and see how they do and feel after they’re done.
Lesson 11+Allow students to bring their own goals to the table and let them suggest things to do while still checking in on the initial skills learned from time to time.
Lesson 4-10Gradually teach new skills and mechanics while honing those already learned.
Lesson 2-3Focus on ingraining the basic features and mechanics previewed in the first lesson and practice more on their own specifically focusing on those mechanics.
Youth players
Working with kidsAdjusting language for kids is important, and teaching kids why things are done is important as well. This way they can recognize the significance of what I am teaching them rather than just being along for the ride. Kids also often need more breaks than older students, so accounting for that in lesson planning is key.
Working with teenagersTeenagers are more receptive to criticism but also might have daily life struggles that can take away from their learning. As a teacher it’s important to also be a listening ear to these types of students, beyond just the role of an educator.
