Youth players
Working with kidsWhen working with younger kids, I focus on the fundamentals of the instrument. In our very first lesson, as we get to know each other, I do a quick review on the history of the clarinet and how we’re able to play it today.
If students have played before, I like to observe them to see where they’re at. If students haven’t played before, we walk through assembling the clarinet, and begin with our posture, finger position, etc. With all students, we do mouthpiece exercises to establish quality and breath.
Each student is different, so there’s no “one lesson fits all.” I am very adaptable to everyone’s skill and knowledge level! (As a classroom teacher, I’ve worked with 15+ students at one time, all with different skill sets.)
What you need to bringStudents need to bring:
- Their A-game!
- Their clarinet with its accessories: reeds, ligature, cleaning swab, cork grease, pencil, etc.
- Any folders and/or books for your music.
- A music stand if needed.
- Stay hydrated! Please have water for each lesson!
*Materials are subject to change based on the lesson plan and/or how your progress is going. For example, a journal might have to be implemented into lessons depending on the student’s progress.*
What I can bringI can bring and share various sheet music and method books during our lessons. I can also provide affordable resources for method books. If a music stand is needed, I can bring mine for the lesson.
