Beginner training plan
Your first lessonIf never played before, we will cover the basics: - How to sit correctly while holding the cello in position. - How to hold the bow and produce sounds correctly. - Simple Fingering by melodies. - What and How to practice.
Lesson 11+By this point, the lessons become a bit less β€œstandardized” and get more personal depending on each student capacities. Always learning musical and technical skills, while complementing them with theory knowledge.
Lesson 4-10The inicial process of every lesson is going to be pretty standard, always checking for the correct position. In these first 10 lessons, the student will internalize the right and most comfortable position to play while getting the most efficient playing (effortlessly). We will work on a new song every lesson or every other lesson. The goal is not to play perfect from lesson 1; it’s just about playing better everyday while developing a better sense of intonation and rhythm while increasing the practice time.
Lesson 2-3For lesson 2: - Check practice schedule between lesson 1 and 2. - Review of correct position, production of sound and melody taught before. - Deeper work on the melody, looking for better finger placement (intonation) and better sound. - Learning a new song. - Talk about practice schedules. For lesson 3: - Check practice schedule between lesson 2 and 3. - Review of correct position, production of sound with the two melodies taught. - Deeper work on the each melody, applying right position and looking for intonation and adding better sound quality. - Learning a new songs. - Talk about better practice schedules.

Advanced training plan
Your first lessonDepending on the needs, we will be working in certain technical and musical aspects to get to know where the most critical elements to focus are. We will discuss practice schedules, what and how to practice for the next lesson, setting goals and expectations for the following lessons.
Lesson 11+Depending on the progress, assigning new and more challenging pieces to push students to new and more advanced levels.
Lesson 4-10Evaluating the technical and musical progress and accommodating the demands based on the skills we need to improve.
Lesson 2-3We will be checking the goals set from previous lessons while talking about schedule and practice routines. More likely doing a lot of technical exercises while pushing for musical developing in the pieces brought to lessons.

Youth players
Working with kidsWith younger kids, the experience of learning is more about β€œfeelings” and having fun. Therefore, the lessons are more towards the feeling of how to play correctly, and the fun of playing melodies that kids can recognize and enjoy. After a couple of lessons in this way, when the process of playing becomes more natural, the β€œrational” part of the music will start, where we will be talking about what they are doing and what they need to do to practice my themselves. Also, a lot of talking with parents about how to support their kids, which is the most fundamental aspect for this stage.

Working with teenagersDepending on the level, and schedule availability, I will adequate demands and set goals. I critical component for teenagers is how to organize themselves while also attending schools and other activities, so a big focus of my lesson would be on teaching what and how to practice and schedule routines.

What you need to bring- Cello and bow. - Rock stop. - Own music (it can be digital as far as you can write notes down on it) - Pencil if not digital - A notebook.

What I can bringI will always have my own cello and my IPad where I always keep all my music

I've been taking lessons with him for 2 years and I love it. His teaching is not only effective, but it is also engaging and fun. I love it because a lot of teachers you meet are always serious and dont really bring fun into the lessons. His teaching is easy to remember. He makes sure that you understand everything before moving on to the next thing. He is super patient, encouraging, and supportive. Thanks to him, I've been able to build both my skills and my confidence in my playing.

Mr Luis is a great teacher. He has helped me so much in a short period of time. I had issues with my posture and confident when playing and after a couple of lessons, y feel my posture got much better. Still working on my confident though. Mr Luis looks like he really cares about my practice and how I manage my time. I like that because he support me beyond the cello lesson. Thanks Mr Luis!

Luis is a great cello teacher! My 10 year-old daughter fell in love with the cello this summer during a music camp where he was one of her instructors. She’s only been taking private lessons for a few months, but I think she has learned so much in a short amount of time. Luis balances being professional with patience and humor during their lessons. We both recommend Luis for any kid wanting to take cello lessons.
