I start the first lesson by getting to know the player β their experience, comfort level, and goals. I focus on building confidence and establishing trust. We go over the fundamentals: stance, footwork, dribbling technique, and shooting form. I keep it simple, positive, and engaging so they leave the first session feeling successful and excited to learn more.
At this point, the focus shifts toward refining skills and understanding game strategy. Players start applying what theyβve learned in scrimmage-like settings and working on decision-making under pressure. I continue to encourage patience and growth, helping them see how fundamentals lead to strong, smart play.
By this stage, players can expect to build on their foundation with more advanced skills like defensive positioning, shooting off the dribble, and teamwork concepts. I emphasize consistency and effort while adding light competition to keep it fun and motivating. Each session builds confidence through repetition, feedback, and small wins.
In the next couple of lessons, I reinforce the basics while introducing more movement and coordination drills. We focus on ball control, passing accuracy, and layups. I start to layer in game-like situations at a slow pace so they can apply the skills weβve been working on. The goal is steady progress and developing good habits early.
