Beginner training plan
Your first lessonWhat parents will SEE: • A lot of missed shots and awkward movement • Kids looking down while dribbling • Confusion with footwork (especially layups) What parents should EXPECT: • It will look messy — that’s normal • Progress is about comfort, not performance • Their child may feel unsure or shy at first
Lesson 11+What parents will SEE: • Real basketball being played • Passing, movement, and spacing • Decision-making (good and bad) • Competitive energy What parents should EXPECT: • Faster drills • Mistakes in decision-making (that’s learning) • Their player having “got it” moments
Lesson 4-10What parents will SEE: • More structured drills • Improved coordination and effort • Some defensive understanding What parents should EXPECT: • Coaches correcting players more • Increased intensity and competitiveness • Visible improvement, but still mistakes under pressure
Lesson 2-3What parents will SEE: • Better control dribbling (still inconsistent) • Kids attempting moves (even if they mess up) • Some made shots close to the basket What parents should EXPECT: • Inconsistency — good reps and bad reps mixed • Kids experimenting and making mistakes • Confidence starting to grow

Youth players
Working with kidsI don’t teach every kid the same way. I adjust based on their skill level, confidence, and how they learn. The goal is to meet them where they are and help them improve at the right pace.

Working with teenagersWith teenagers, I still adapt to each player, but I focus more on skill development, decision-making, and preparing them for real game situations. I push them based on their goals and hold them accountable while still building their confidence

What you need to bringBall, water

What I can bringI will bring things needed to enhance the lesson such as cones, ladder, resistant bands etc

Ms. Shelly is great. The lessons challenged me and I got better. She is supportive but holds accountability. She asks questions so she knew I understood and encouraged me to ask questions if I didn’t understand.

Ms. Shelly is a great trainer. My son wanted to get better so we took him to her. She started off slow and really got an understanding of what my son was trying to do and where he was at skills wise. She made him work hard but kept it fun. She even had her son come up and help with a couple lessons so they can have “boy time”. Her son is amazing and she trained him. They even made nicknames for each other and my son went to watch her son play. Ms Shelly sat with us and talked through things with my son that they had been working on. It was fun to see things click when they were talking about it.
Melody
Ms. Shelly is very patient and caring. She makes sure kids understand what she is asking and demonstrates everything. She keeps them engaged and though it seemed repetitive at times, I think that is what helped so much. When Melody started to understand the drill, Ms. Shelly would move on to a little more challenging things. Melody loves working with her.
Jordan
I love Ms. Shelly and her son. They partner on lessons at times and it gave me someone to work against. She challenged me and I had homework to do but she could tell if I had be practicing on my own or not. She is very easy to talk to encouraging.
Kenzie
My daughter loved Ms Shelly and she is a great trainer. It was hard to get times booked with her because she is a single mother and has a son who plays. So during basketball season her availability became less. That is the only negative thing I can say about her but that is my selfish side lol. Once her son goes to college and she has more time we will be going back.
