Beginner training plan
Your first lesson• Keep your energy positive and encouraging mistakes are part of learning. • Use simple language and demonstrate everything first. • Give frequent praise to build confidence • Avoid overloading them with too many instructions at once.
Lesson 11+• Gradual progression: Skills become more complex and game-focused • Confidence building: Emphasize improvement, not mistakes • Fun & engagement: Keep drills competitive but enjoyable • Homework & practice: Encourage off-court work to accelerate development
Lesson 4-10Repetition and mastery of basic fundamentals • Gradual introduction of game concepts • Confidence in handling the ball, shooting, and passing • Fun, competitive drills to keep engagement high • Homework drills for improvement between sessions
Lesson 2-3 Start connecting fundamentals to game situations • Continue building confidence with repetition • Keep sessions fun, short, and positive boredom kills learning in beginners • Gradually add complexity without overwhelming

Youth players
Working with kidsWhen I work with kids, I know every player is different, so I adapt my lessons to meet them where they’re at. I start by seeing what they already know and what they need to work on. From there, I break skills down into simple steps, focusing on one or two things at a time so they don’t get overwhelmed. I also make sure to mix fundamentals with fun — drills are always game-like or competitive so they stay engaged while learning. I pay attention to their confidence, energy, and motivation, adjusting the pace, difficulty, or type of drill depending on how they’re doing that day. Finally, I give them clear, achievable goals for each session and homework they can practice at home. That way, every kid can see progress, feel good about their improvements, and stay excited to come back for the next session.

Working with teenagersWhen I work with teenagers, I know they’re at a stage where they want to improve fast and see results, so I push them while still keeping it realistic. I focus on building their skills, confidence, and basketball IQ, and I adjust each session depending on their strengths, weaknesses, and goals. I keep the workouts challenging and competitive, with game-like drills that make them think, move, and make decisions on the court. At the same time, I make sure they understand the “why” behind every drill — so they’re not just going through the motions. I also help them set short- and long-term goals, track their progress, and stay accountable. The combination of challenge, skill-building, and guidance is what helps them grow not just as players, but as athletes who know how to compete and work hard for results.

What you need to bring • 🏀 Basketball (proper size for their age group) • 👟 Indoor basketball shoes (clean soles for grip & court protection) • 💧 Water bottle (hydration is key) • 🧦 Extra socks & small towel (sweat = slippery shoes) • 📝 Notebook/pen or phone notes (to track drills, goals, feedback) • ✅ Positive attitude – ready to learn & be coached • 💪 Work ethic – give 100% effort every rep • 🧠 Focus – no distractions, phones away during drills

What I can bringBasketball, cones, resistance bands, whistle, and timer.
