Beginner training plan
Your first lessonMy approach with a beginner’s first lesson is focused on building comfort, confidence, and a foundation of fundamentals. I start by getting to know the player—their experience level, coordination, and mindset—so I can meet them where they are. From there, I introduce basic skills like ball handling, footwork, and shooting mechanics in a simple, encouraging way. I keep drills structured but fun, so the player stays engaged without feeling overwhelmed.
Lesson 2-3My approach in the second lesson is to build on the fundamentals introduced in the first session while increasing structure and consistency. I reinforce proper technique in ball handling, footwork, and shooting, making sure the player is developing good habits.

Youth players
Working with kidsI focus on building a strong foundation through fun, engaging drills that teach basic skills like dribbling, shooting, and footwork. I create a positive environment where kids can build confidence, learn discipline, and develop a love for the game.

Working with teenagersWith teenagers, I emphasize skill development, game IQ, and competitive mindset. I tailor sessions to each player’s goals—whether that’s making a team, improving performance, or preparing for the next level. I also focus on accountability, conditioning, and real game situations.

Coach train me for years since 7th grade and he played a huge role in helping me get to where I am now at University of West Florida. His training is really effective, especially long term, and everything we worked on translated into my actual game. He focuses on the details that matter and always pushed me to keep improving every year. I’ve had well over 200 sessions with him and it’s made a big difference in my confidence and performance. Definitely someone you want in your corner.

Training with Coach Jay completely changed my game. I started with him in 6th grade back in Washington State and he helped develop me into a college player at Benedictine(Mesa). He actually cares about you as a person, not just a player, and pushes you to reach your full potential. Everything we worked on translated directly into real games. I wouldn’t be where I am today without him. Highly recommend.

Looking back, the time I spent working with Coach Jay during COVID ended up being more impactful than I expected. It wasn’t long-term training—just getting in the gym and putting in work—but everything was intentional. He has a way of breaking things down and helping you see the game differently, especially when it comes to preparation and mindset. Now playing at Corban University, I still find myself going back to things I picked up during those sessions. Even in a short amount of time, he left a lasting impression on how I approach the game.

Coach Jay and I only worked together briefly, but it was enough to make a difference. He brought a level of purpose that pushed me to be more locked in every time I stepped on the court. Now playing at Eastern Arizona College, I still carry that mindset with me. Short time, but it definitely left its mark.

I worked with Coach Jay for a short time back in my middle school days, but it ended up meaning more than I realized at the time. Even early on, he was big on fundamentals and doing things the right way, which stuck with me as I kept playing. Now at Spokane Community College and recently signing to Benedictine University, I can look back and see how those early sessions helped build my foundation. It wasn’t a long stint, but it was definitely impactful and something I’ve carried with me as I’ve continued to grow in my game.
