Our first lesson begins with a brief, easy going conversation to open and uplift the players and their parent/guardians. Then we transition on the court opening with a series of stationary and moving dribbling drills [pound dribbling, side to side crossovers, cone weaving]. Next, we focus on form shooting, catch and shoot, and some slight condition shooting [spot shooting, circle shooting, lay up drills]. Lastly, we focus on proper basketball mechanics through defense principals, pivoting, passing, and protecting the basketball in the triple threat position [defensive stance, lateral slides, close out drills, drop step, chest and bounce passing, “pivot, bump, and go”]. We close out each session with a game of knockout, positive reinforcement and expectations for the next session.
For remaining sessions, players can expect to combine multiple drills into one for more game like experience and reps. Development of basketball IQ, adapting to new complex situations and continued development in confidence.
By lesson 4 through 10, players expect to come into training with the mindset to learn new skills, techniques, make mistakes, and improve while practicing giving themselves grace. Drills will begin to be more creative and fun!
Lessons 2-3 focuses on honing in on the players natural skills, ensuring basic knowledge and understanding of their game. Slowing down the drills and focusing reps on confidence building and proper mechanics are key here.
Our first lesson begins with a brief, easy going conversation to open and uplift the players and parent/guardians. Then we transition on the court opening with a warm up of form shooting, catch and shoot “spot” shooting, movement “condition” shooting, stationary and movement dribbling. Next, we focus on combining our dribbling drills with shooting/finishing at and around the basket through pick and roll/Dribble Hand off situations. [Cone weaving, creating space for jump-shot, floaters, and contact finishing]. Lastly a combination of defensive principles, close-out drills, pass and relocating drills to make a certain number of shots and emphasis on change of pace. Training ends with knockout or 1v1 ladder, positive feedback and expectations for the next session.
For remaining sessions, players can expect continued combination of more complexed drills and commands to improve footwork, performance, basketball IQ, and confidence during workouts and games.
