Beginner training plan
Your first lessonI start every first lesson with a skill assessment to understand each player’s current level. We begin with basic ball handling - stationary dribbling with both hands, simple passing against a wall, and basic shooting form without a basket. My favorite drill is the “Mirror Dribble” where players copy my movements while dribbling, helping them develop coordination and confidence. I focus on making it fun and non-intimidating, emphasizing that everyone learns at their own pace.
Lesson 11+Players ready for intermediate/advanced training will work on game situational drills like “3-man Weave,” “Fast Break Finishing,” and “Help Defense Rotation.” We’ll focus on position-specific skills and introduce more complex offensive and defensive concepts. Training becomes increasingly game-like with scrimmages and competitive drills.
Lesson 4-10 This phase builds basketball IQ and intermediate skills. We’ll master the “Triple Threat Position” and work on pivoting drills. My go-to drill is the “1-on-1 Mirror Defense” to teach defensive stance and movement. Shooting expands to free throws and mid-range shots using the “Around the Horn” shooting drill. We’ll introduce basic plays like pick-and-roll using the “Screen and Roll Progression” drill. Conditioning becomes more basketball-specific with “Suicide Sprints” and “Defensive Slide Ladder” drills.
Lesson 2-3We’ll introduce dynamic movement with the ball - walking while dribbling, then jogging. The “Cone Weaving” drill helps develop ball control while moving. We’ll work on basic passing techniques (chest pass, bounce pass) using the “Partner Passing Progression” drill. Shooting form continues with close-range shots, focusing on the “BEEF” method (Balance, Eyes, Elbow, Follow-through). I also introduce the “Traffic Light” drill for listening skills and ball control

What you need to bringStudents should bring athletic shoes with good ankle support (basketball shoes preferred), comfortable athletic clothing they can move freely in, a water bottle, and a small towel. For outdoor sessions, sunscreen is recommended. Students don’t need to bring basketballs as I provide them, but having their own for home practice is beneficial.

What I can bringI provide regulation basketballs (various sizes for different age groups), agility cones, resistance bands, and rebounding nets. I have a portable hoop system for outdoor sessions and training bibs for scrimmages. I also bring a first aid kit and water bottles for hydration breaks.

lessons“Working with this coach was the best decision for my basketball development. His technical knowledge and ability to break down complex skills made everything click for me. The confidence he built in me translated directly to my college performance. I’m now starting as a freshman because of the foundation he gave me.”
Joe
Coach transformed my game completely. When I started, I could barely dribble with my left hand. Through his structured training and constant encouragement, I developed into a complete player. His attention to fundamentals and game IQ helped me earn a starting position at my college. The drills he taught me are still part of my daily routine. Highly recommend!
Amin
Coach’s program is intense but incredibly effective. He pushed me beyond what I thought was possible and prepared me perfectly for college basketball. Now I’m starting as a college player thanks to his training. His knowledge of the game and development process is outstanding.”
