With 16 years of experience coaching baseball and softball. I’ve instructed players ranging from ages 4 to 18 with various skill levels. My experience in youth ministry and in the foster care system has strengthened my ability to communicate with younger players. I excel in instructing proper hitting mechanics and teaching a mentality that will give confidence when your player steps up to the plate.

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonBuildings good swing starts from the ground up. We’ll start by working on balance and learning to use our lower half. We’ll also start learning about the mental part of the game. The failure rate and overcoming adversity. Homework is always a possibility.
Lesson 11+Once a controlled, violent swing is starting to become normal, further lessons start to become more individualized and focused on repairing and adjusting mechanical flaws. We’ll also start learning a smart and aggressive approach at the plate. I also ask parents to send me video of their player’s AB’s so we can discuss what went well and what can improve. Homework is always a possibility.
Lesson 4-10The ensuing lessons will start with a review of previous lessons, further ingraining good habits and muscle memory. We’ll also continue building on the hands and upper body. As always, we’ll continue working on mental toughness and not fearing failure. Homework is always a possibility.
Lesson 2-3We’ll continue with a heavy focus on the lower half, reviewing and expanding on lesson 1. We’ll start adding proper hand path. We want proper mechanics to become muscle memory. As always, we’ll discuss mental aspects of competing and mental toughness. Homework is always a possibility
Advanced training plan
Youth players
Working with kidsMany physical movements and concepts for a great swing sound and initially feel totally foreign to beginning players. Communicating these principles in a way they can understand is key. I use specific verbiage and constantly encourage. Even after they’re grown, my players remember my verbiage all know that I’m their third biggest fan behind mom and dad.
Working with teenagersAlthough mechanical adjustments and improvements are always needed, I find with older players, it’s the approach and mentality that needs the most work. Any game where the best on the planet fail 70-80% of the time is brutally tough. You have to learn to embrace and enjoy the battle. Responded and compete.
What you need to bringBring your bat, batting helmet, batting gloves and a willingness to listen and work! If you’re new and aren’t sure what equipment to buy yet, just let me know and I’ll provide some equipment for you to use to determine what’s best.
What I can bringBaseballs, tees, and any other miscellaneous training aides. I can also provide bats, helmets, or other equipment if necessary.
