Beginner training plan
Your first lessonI like to start a beginner(5/6 year old)by playing catch. While playing catch I'd ask them what position they'd like. Check out the mechanics of throwing and catching the ball. Then I'd have them run the bases. Start in the batters box, take an imaginary swing and sprint to first like they want to beat out an infield ground-ball. Then a clean basehit and take a turn aggressively to maybe take 2nd base on the outfielders error and so on to a double then a triple and even an inside-the-park HR. All this while I would teach them to listen and see what their base coaches are trying to tell them by arm actions. It can happen...I know! Watch as much baseball they can on tv or at a live game.
Lesson 2-3The second and third instructions would be warming up. Playing catch and running the bases. Infielder I'd hit balls to them. Same with an outfielder flyballs and ground balls
Lesson 4-10Drill, drill drill...if this kid wants to get good, better and the best in baseball(or any other sport)drills drills drill is practice practice practice. They gotta love it and understand it. Baseball can be boring but if you want something bad enough, ya gotta practice and think about the situation offensively,defensively and even sitting on the bench.
Lesson 11+For the remaining lessons the beginner is gonna get better. I just hope the parents don't think he's gonna be the next Harper, Tatis, jr or Lindor or Acuña, jr. I hope they'll see my enthusiasm for baseball and they'll be hooked. Keep watching games on tv or a park and maybe start collecting baseball cards, if they aren't already doing so.
