


Hello, I’m Jackie, a native Mandarin teacher in Bethesda, MD. Since 2019 I’ve taught K-12 Chinese, focusing on writing and speaking for students. I hold Chinese teaching and Maryland early childhood certifications. I create customized digital lessons to improve students’ literacy and cultural awareness.


I am a retired high school English teacher with 36 years' experience. I use bilingual teaching for Mandarin lessons to help students learn easily. My students include teens, college students, working adults and seniors. Lessons focus on daily & workplace spoken Chinese. I share traditional Chinese culture in class and provide beginner HSK guidance. I love Chinese history, classic literature, flower arrangement and tea art.

I was born and grew up in China. Before becoming a Mandarin tutor, I worked in hospitals as a well-liked Mandarin Interpreter. I enjoy teaching students at all ages, online or in-person. Over the years I have gained extensive experience working with children. Per your unique needs and desires, I'll design and prepare lessons that will meet your goals and areas of interest and improvements. In addition teaching the ancient language I’d love to share the Chinese culture and tradition.


I’ve been studying Mandarin language and culture since age four, and now take the most advanced classes in Mandarin UC Berkeley has to offer. Since I started learning, I’ve received a 5/5 in AP Chinese, a 7/7 in IB Mandarin (SL-B), and attended a the Global Young Leaders Program hosted by Peking University in China. I now help facilitate language acquisition as a Peer Coordinator at the UC Berkeley Language Exchange Program, where I lead the English and Mandarin as a second language pods.
