I am a Detroit Symphony Orchestra violinist and an experienced teacher for serious intermediate, advanced, and adult violinists. My strength is helping students solve specific technical and musical problems and build stronger performance ability. Lessons are goal-driven and based on real professional experience: we identify the target, diagnose the obstacles, and build a clear training strategy for auditions, competitions, exams, orchestral excerpts, and professional orchestra preparation.
"I very much enjoyed my time studying with Hongyi Mo in Ann Arbor and improved greatly under him. One of the best things he taught me was to hear as he hears; this has unlocked many improvements in both my intonation and technique, and pushed me much further than I expected. He's been patient as I've reached for the upper end of repertoire, recently performing Nel Cor, helped me experiment with melding my career in software engineering with my passion for violin, and given advice as I started as a board member of the Artaria String Quartet. I highly recommend Mo to any student willing to put in the time to improve in their craft.

I'm a passionate violin instructor with several years of experience helping students grow into confident, expressive musicians. My teaching blends a strong classical foundation with modern techniques, creating a fun and focused environment tailored to each student’s goals. I use the Essential Elements book for beginners and work with intermediate and advanced players on pieces they choose—whether for auditions, performances, or personal enjoyment. In addition to teaching, I'm a professional performer with the San Antonio Philharmonic and regularly play for events such as weddings, funerals, and private functions. My active performance career keeps my teaching fresh, relevant, and connected to real-world musicianship.
"What I like most about Amy's studio is her style of teaching. She is a lovely combination of extremely kind and patient but also technically exacting. I have made such huge strides in my playing. She is absolutely the best violin teacher I've ever had. If you are serious about the violin or viola, Ms. Pikler is the teacher for you.

"My daughter has had such good fortune this year, being able to study violin with Christopher as new tutor for her. He has helped my daughter in so many ways musically (technique, expression, interpretation, dynamics, tone, etc.), what I am most grateful to Christopher for is the increased confidence my daughter has gained through studying with him after just a few short weeks. With previous instructors Sarah played with an improper bow hold, poor posture, and I felt she was behind on repertoire when compared to other students her age but since finding this teacher those challenges have been remedied.
