I am an award-winning playwright, screenwriter, and director of actors who teaches Scriptwriting at Howard University. My short film, N.O.S., was acquired by ShortsTV and is available on Amazon Prime. I coach actors in audition preparation, scene study, monologues, self-tapes, and acting technique using the Transformational Character Acting Method, a methodology I developed to help actors uncover the hidden story driving a character’s behavior. Drawing from Michael Shurtleff, Judith Weston, Lee Strasberg, Viewpoints, and my own approach to character transformation, I help actors identify a character’s prior wounds, limiting beliefs, protective behaviors, objectives, and ultimate transformation. By understanding what a character is protecting, what they fear, and who they are becoming, actors can make truthful, specific, and emotionally compelling choices. Whether you’re preparing for an audition, developing a role, or strengthening your craft, I’ll help you move beyond simply performing the role to fully embodying the character—bringing depth, authenticity, and emotional truth to every performance.
"Joy allowed autonomy to the artist while sharing her story. I was honored to bring her words and vision to life. I hope I did the role justice. Actors love to work with Directors who make the job easy.
